  9. Before you run this demo, be sure to doubleclick the "MakeAssign" icon. If
  10. you fail to run this, page headers in the demo will be shown in ugly blocky
  11. characters. By default the demo uses the 'times' and 'courier' fonts in
  12. sizes that didn't came with your WorkBench.

  16. INTRODUCTION
  17. ------------

  19. AWeb is a fast and powerful World Wide Web browser for the Amiga computer.
  20.  
  21. It offers the following features:
  22.  
  23.  o AWeb can use a wide range of TCP-stacks: AmiTCP/IP, I-Net225, AS-225
  24.    or compatible. The TCP stack can be started automatically (*) when it is
  25.    needed. Without TCP stack running, you can still view local files.
  26.  
  27.  o AWeb uses extensive internal multitasking, which leads to total
  28.    asynchroneous and parallel network access. Images are starting to load
  29.    while the document is still loading. It is possible to follow a link
  30.    while the previous document is still loading. A separate network status
  31.    window shows all pending network and local file accesses. All network
  32.    accesses can be interrupted immediately.

  34.  o The HTML-3.2 standard is (almost) fully supported, including tables,
  35.    image alignment, colours, etc. For buggy pages not conforming to
  36.    the standard, AWeb offers a compatibility mode.
  37.  
  38.  o AWeb supports the use of proxies for HTTP, FTP, Gopher and Telnet.
  39.    Because some proxies can't handle forms or other special cases, the use
  40.    of proxies can be temporarily disabled from the menu.

  42.  o The HTTP and Gopher protocols are supported internally. By using
  43.    external programs, FTP, Mailto, Telnet (*) and News (*) can be used too.
  44.    HTTP user authorization is supported.
  45.  
  46.  o AWeb lets you load all images, delay all image loading, or load only
  47.    clickable maps and delay other images. For delayed images, the ALT text
  48.    is taken into account. Transparent GIFs are supported. The 24-bit picture
  49.    datatype (picturedtV43) is supported.

  51.  o AWeb supports background sounds on pages, provided you have a datatype
  52.    for the sound installed.

  54.  o AWeb can print the visited pages on a graphical printer. (*)

  56.  o An easy popup menu allows you to perform many different functions on
  57.    any link (like load in background, open in new window) or image (like
  58.    save to disk, flush, view with external viewer). (*)

  60.  o AWeb has a fast, persistent, disk-based cache. The cachebrowser (*)
  61.    allows easy off-line browsing and cache management.
  62.  
  63.  o To improve network speed, host names and network addresses are cached
  64.    so addresses are looked up only once during a session.

  66.  o AWeb can open it's windows on the default public screen, on a named
  67.    public screen or open its own screen.

  69.  o AWeb has a hierarchical hotlist, with options (*) to group entries.
  70.    In extension to its own hotlist, AWeb can read other hotlists, like
  71.    those of AMosaic and early IBrowse betas.

  73.  o An advanced settings requester is integrated in the program.

  75.  o AWeb has an ARexx interface (*), and a unique and powerful shell command
  76.    interface.

  81. only.

  85. REQUIREMENTS
  86. ------------

  88. AWeb needs:
  89.  o OS 3.0 or better.
  90.  o At least 2MB of memory as an absolute minimum. 3 MB or more is
  91.    highly recommended.
  92.  o Either AmiTCP/IP, I-Net225 or AS-225 if you want to access the Internet,
  93.    or a TCP stack that is compatible with one of these. Examples of
  94.    compatible products are Miami and TermiteTCP.
  95.  o Appropriate picture datatypes (GIF, JPEG) to show inlined images.
  96.  o The ClassAct gadget kit (included in this distribution).
